We are deeply saddened to lose Mehmet Yontar (Mechanical Engineering'49).
Mehmet Yontar, a 1949 graduate from Robert College Higher Section Mechanical Engineering, passed away last week. He will be buried at Saint Stephen's Cemetery NJ 451 Milburn Ave on February 25. We extend our condolences and patience to his family and relatives.
Mehmet Yontar (1924-2021)
He was born in Konya Seydişehir in 1924 as one of three children of Recep and Hatice couple. After completing his primary school in Seydişehir, secondary school in Konya Military Secondary School, he graduated from Işıklar Military High School with first place. After graduating from Robert College with a degree in engineering (machinery), he received his master's degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University in New York in 1951.
After working in the leading laboratories of his profession such as Edison laboratories after his education, he started to work at the Port Authority of NYNJ, which carries out the most important construction and infrastructure services in New York State New Jersey. He continued to work in the same company until 1991, when he retired. Yontar, who took senior responsibility during the construction of twin towers, which was targeted on September 11, 2001, also has various patents approved by the US Patent Office.
